Hydration Powder Comparison

The low down on these highly prized hydration powders offered to one and all in hotter environments, most specifically mine sites!
I've never had much faith in the Sqwincher brand but there is a new kid on the block around these parts, so I've taken on the task to review them and decide which I would recommend (if any of them!).
Absolutely they have a time and a place and if used irregularly like everything else, they shouldn't do too much harm.
Sadly all of them contain E955 - Sucralose, this is another name for Splenda.  It's made from sugar and chlorine, according to Chemical Maze it is best avoided and it is prohibited in foods for infants.
Another additive that they all contain is carcinogenic food colouring, these are banned in most nations but not Australia.  I guess steer clear from those that contain E133 - Brilliant Blue as that is supposed to be the worst of the lot.
The Thorzt Solo Shot 26 g contains an excessive amount of sugar, and the constituents of high fructose corn syrup.  This is something you really want to avoid, another additive that the body simply cannot process and it can cause havoc in people with blood sugar problems.
After looking at all of the ingredients my personal opinion is that the Thorzt 99% sugar free Solo Shots are slightly better than the others.  The Sqwincher seems to have just a couple more additives in it than the others.

Now, we haven't actually talked about taste, I thought the Thorzt 99% sugar free was very chemically tasting so I would rank this last if you are simply going for taste.  The Sqwincher was ok tasting depending on which flavour you choose.  The 26g Solo
Shot (or as I like to call it Sugar Shot) tasted incredibly sweet, so much so that I had to water it down even further!
So in summary, if you are feeling really dehydrated then these will be ok and put some of those electrolytes back into your body.  But I would not use them on a daily basis at all!

well done Ange, it is handy to know these things and I will pass on your findings to the ones that like to add them to their water.
Thank you :)
